We are delighted to inform about the new book Otelo en Espa\u00f1a: la versi\u00f3n neocl\u00e1sica y las obras relacionadas<\/em>, <\/strong>(Othello in Spain: The Neoclassical version and Related Works), edited by Dr. \u00c1ngel Luis Pujante<\/strong> (member of our International Advisory Board) and Keith Gregor<\/strong>, published by Editum<\/em> and Ediciones Complutense.<\/em>\"\"<\/p>\n

The volume brings together the Spanish Neoclassical version of Othello and Related Works that contributed to creating a unique “otelomania.” Translated from a French neoclassical adaptation, this Othello was released and published in Madrid in 1802 and continued to be performed in Spanish cities until the mid-19th century. Related works \u2014 the opera Otello by Rossini, the parody Caliche, and the comedy Shakespeare enamorado \u2014 contributed to consolidating this success and benefiting from it from 1820 onwards. The four texts collected here are preceded by an introduction to the facts and problems that surrounded them and the sociocultural phenomenon in which they intervened, as well as complementary notes in this regard. The edition closes with the corresponding bibliography and a list of Spanish translations and adaptations of Shakespeare’s Othello from 1802 to 2018.<\/p>\n

\u00c1ngel Luis Pujante: Emeritus Professor of English Philology (University of Murcia). He was principal researcher of the project La presencia de Shakespeare en la cultura espa\u00f1ola y europea.<\/em> He is the author of Shakespeare llega a Espa\u00f1a (2019) and co-editor of Romeo y Julieta en Espa\u00f1a (2017).<\/p>\n

Keith Gregor: Professor of English Philology (University of Murcia). He was principal researcher of the project La presencia de Shakespeare en la cultura espa\u00f1ola y europea author of Shakespeare in the Spanish Theater (2010) and co-editor of Romeo y Julieta en Espa\u00f1a (2017).<\/p>\n
